This is my thankful jar. I saw the idea on Pinterest last year. I made one for myself and a few friends. It’s simply a jar with decorative ribbon on the top. I found self-adhesive ribbon at a local craft store. It was a super easy project.
I gave these as Christmas/New Year’s gifts. The hope was to fill the jar throughout the year. Then, go through the jars together at the end of this year. I hope that my friends are enjoying their jars as much as I am. Otherwise, it’s going to be pretty boring when we get together. Ha!
My jar holds many thanks, only some I remember. Some are care-free such as, “I’m thankful I didn’t fall off the bike” and “I’m thankful I didn’t have to cook dinner tonight.” Some are painful such as “I’m thankful my friend is able to care for her daughter in her final days.”
I am thankful for many things, friendships, and events. I am thankful that we have survived nine months of our family being separated. I am actually thankful for the separation itself because my heart yearns for my husband. Some people can’t say that.
Just having this simple jar makes me aware of all the things I have to be thankful for. It makes me stop, write something down, and seal it up to be reminded later. Looking at the filling jar brings a smile on the hard days. It reminds me that no matter the circumstance, there is always something to be thankful for. God is good and He provides.
What are you thankful for today? I encourage you to create a way to remember… start your own jar, create a journal, etc. Have something tangible that reminds you of all the good things that God has given you and gotten you through.
“give thanks in all circumstances, for this in God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” 1 Thessalonians 5:18
