This picture was taken almost a year ago.  This year has been a whirlwind, yet the longest year of my life.  While overseas, my husband has been using his spare time to work out.  Me?  Well, I don’t have any spare time. HA!

Yesterday, he emailed me a picture of himself.  When it finally opened, I was in shock for a while.  I mean imagine what we would all look like if we worked out for two hours everyday for a year.  I can say for a fact that I wouldn’t have my underarm fans!  The more I looked at that picture, the more nervous I got.  I mean, I’ve put on a few pounds, gotten a few more gray hairs, and have a few more lines on my face.  What if he’s not so excited to see what he gets when he comes home?

I’ve reassured myself that everything will be just fine.  But, this is just another fact of military life.  People change over time.  Usually, you are with each other so you don’t notice as much.  For instance, I stopped drinking coffee and I started drinking milk, something I never did before.  Likes or dislikes that we once knew about each other may no longer be true.  We will have to re-discover each other.  It’s almost like going on a first date again.  Very exciting, but truly scary.

On the flip side, I see my boys in that picture.  My youngest was missing his front teeth and my oldest was about six inches shorter.  What will my husband think when he sees them after a year?  I’ve watched them grow, but he remembers them as they were.  We’ve had this train of three going for a while, I wonder if my husband worries about fitting back in, even if it’s just for a few days.

What binds us together is our love for each other and our love for Christ.  That will surpass all worries and doubt.  No matter what we look like or how much we’ve grown, we are still family.  God loves us just the same.  We keep our eyes on Him, because thankfully He never changes.

We are so excited that we will be together soon, even if only a short while.  I am thankful for the sacrifice my husband makes for us everyday.  I can’t wait to have those arms around me!

“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” Hebrews 13:8
