As a church-goer, I want any of you non-attendees to know that we are fun, too. I know that there was drinking in the Bible. I don’t think it is a sin to drink as long as you aren’t over doing it. I choose not to for other reasons. I’m not sure how God feels about smoking (other than we are supposed to treat our bodies as temples (1 Corinthians 6:19-20), and I don’t think that qualifies), but I’ve done that, too.
Just because I go to church and am a saved believer, doesn’t mean that I am perfect or that I haven’t done my share of sinning. I know how to have fun… and so do the majority of my Christian, church-going friends! Even the seniors at church are pretty funny if you get to know them. Old people are the BOMB! You know who you are… and you are totally fine that I just called you old! 😉
What makes the Christian different is not that we don’t sin, it’s that we have trusted in Jesus Christ as our Savior. We believe that he died on a cross for our sins and that His blood washed away our sin. We are all a work in progress. We are human and we all fail everyday. I may not fail at the same things that you do, but I fail nonetheless.
You may think that church is full of hypocrites… well, if you think that everyone there is supposed to be perfect, but you see they aren’t… you would be correct. But, that is not what church is for… it’s not for perfect people. Jesus was the only perfect person. Church is for sinners. Trust me… I am there so…
Maybe you could give it a chance or at least not assume that those of us that go are stick-in-the-muds. If you get to know me well enough, I might be the most fun friend you have! 😉
